Continental Overrunning Alternator Pulleys are vehicle-specific and cover a wide range of applications. In addition to reducing accessory drive system vibration, the pulley has a highly sophisticated one-way clutch allowing the alternator to "coast" freely when belt speed is suddenly decreased. This "overrunning" feature eliminates the chirping sounds that often occur during engine shutdown or transmission shifting.
